Mukabalah (Recitation of the Qur’an in Ramadan)
“The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people…” (Qur’an 2:185)
During the holy month of Ramadan, it is a longstanding tradition to gather and recite the Qur’an, often completing it within the month. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to review the Qur’an each Ramadan with the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). This practice, referred to as Mukabalah (or Muqabalah), not only deepens our connection with Allah’s words, but also unites hearts in devotion and remembrance.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever recites a single letter from the Book of Allah will receive one reward (Hasanah), and that reward will be multiplied by ten.” [Tirmidhi]
Engaging in this collective recitation increases our awareness of the Qur’an’s message and amplifies the blessings we receive, especially in the month of Ramadan.
