The Reward Of Doing Good For The Sake Of Allah
Abu Hamza Muhammad bin Ibrahim (Rahmatullahi Alayhi), one of the Ustadh’s (teachers) of Junaid Al-Baghdadi (r.a.), had a child born to him on a rainy night. They had nothing to eat at home that night. Besides, the rain began to pour harder. The rain flooded into their house for it was on the way. Abu Hamza Muhammad bin Ibrahim (r.a. had a young servant. Abu Hamza and his servant tried hard to drain the water with clay jugs. They continued to do so until morning.
When it was morning, Abu Hamza’s wife gave him two dirhams (silver coins) and told him to buy something to eat.”
Abu Hamza (r.a. took the money and left home with his servant. They came across a girl who was crying. Abu Hamza (r.a.) asked her why she was crying. The little girl said, “I have a cruel master. He gave me a glass bottle to buy olive oil with it. But I dropped the bottle and broke it, and the olive oil is gone for waste. I’m afraid my master will beat me.” On hearing this Abu Hamza (r.a.) held the small girl’s hand, bought for her olive oil in a glass bottle, and handed it to her. But the girl said: “Will you come with me to my master and intercede for me so that he doesn’t beat me for being late.” Abu Hamza (r.a.) fulfilled this request of the girl as well. Later on, Abu Hamza (r.a.) and his servant went to the masjid. They sat there for a while, and his servant asked why he did such a thing on such a difficult day like that day. Abu Hamza (r.a.) signalled him to keep quiet. They sat in the masjid until Asr Salah (prayer). After Salah he told his servant that they could return home.
When they entered the alley where their house was, they noticed the alley was full of porters who were carrying foodstuff that a person could need in wintertime. And the man who was standing in front of the porters was holding a paper in his hand. He came closer to Abu Hamza (r.a.) and said: “O Abu Hamza, we were informed that last night you had a son born to you. We’ve brought you whatever we had, as a gift. Please accept these.” Another man approached Abu Hamza (r.a.) with a purse in his hand containing five hundred dirhams in it. He gave the purse to Abu Hamza (r.a.) who said to his servant: “When you intend to do a work, do it for someone who pays back like this (for Allah’s sake).
