The Month Of Muharram
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar. On the first night of this month (the night joining the last day of Dhul Hijjah to the first day of Muharram), one should pray 2 Rak’ah of a Nafil Salâh between Maghrib and Ishâ Salâh for the pleasure of Allah Subhanahu. The intention is made as follows:
“O, Rabb make this new year blessed for me. Bestow upon me Your grace and forgiveness. Provide me with happiness in this world and the Hereafter. Allahu Akbar.” In every Rak’ah the following is recited: 7 times Surah Al-Fatiha, 7 times Âyah Al- Kursî, and 7 times Surah Al-Ikhlâs.
After the Salâh, the following should be recited 11 times and finished with one’s own Duaa,
“Laa ilaha illallahu wahdahu laa sharikah lah. Lahu’l-mulku wa lahu’l-hamdu yuhyi wa yumitu wa huwa hayyun laa yamutu biyadihi’l-khayr wa huwa ala kulli shay’in qadir.”
11 times Istighfâr and 11 times Salawât.
During dua, one should pray for the forgiveness of the past year to begin the coming year free of sins.
In addition to the above, Salâh Al-Tasbih should also be prayed on this night. The following intention can be made: “O Allah, in this year, grant me Your forgiveness, Your pleasure, and guidance. Bless me with the opportunity to fill my book of Amal (deeds) with good deeds. Protect me from the bad deeds that may cause Your wrath.”
The following should be recited in Qiyâm (after the recitation of 15 Tasbihat):
1st Rak’ah: Surah Al-Fatiha, Âyah Al-Kursî
2nd Rak’ah: Surah Al-Fatiha, Amanar-Rasulu (adding the first two Âyahs from Surah Ali Imran)
3rd Rak’ah: Surah Al-Fatiha, Huwallahulladhi…
4th Rak’ah: Surah Al-Fatiha, Surah Al-Ikhlâs.
After Salâh, one should recite Istighfâr and Salawât and make their Dua to Allah Ta’âlâ. (Du‘as [Invocations] and ‘Ibâdahs [Acts of Worship])
